We had to temporarily turn off account registration on our Jabber-Server, because thousands of spam accounts got created by automated bots within the last days. For the same reason, we unfortunately felt impelled to delete all accounts that got registered within the last two weeks. If your account is amongh them, we hope that you understand and would like to ask you for some patience. In case that you’re in urgent need for a Jabber account, please have a look at our Friends.
During the last months, we have put a lot of work in our invitation and administration portal. Originally, we developed this tool in 2014 to simplify the access to our e-mail service. Later, we added a cloud storage with several features (calendar, contacts, etc.) to systemli.org mail accounts. Both are valuable features for our users, we hope. Today, we are very happy to present a new important feature: e-mail password recovery.
Starting today, we have a new service: metadata.systemli.org, a metadata cleaner.
At metadata.systemli.org you can upload files and let them be cleaned of metadata. That’s particularly useful to obfuscate autors and editors of the files. To remove metadata, the program mat2 is used.
We copied a bit from our friends at Riseup and improved our pad service.
When creating new pads, there’s now three options for the expiry time that you can choose from. For ephemeral pads you choose “1 Tag” (1 day), the default stays “30 Tage” (30 days) and for long-lasting projects, there’s “1 Jahr” (1 year).
From today on, there will be a new contact address: support@systemli.org. Please use this address for all your requests regarding our services.
Today, we switch the TLS certificate of our jabber server to LetsEncrypt. Thus, our last long-lasting fingerprint is gone. Read more about this in our original announcement.
We’ve been busy with our user portal. Recently, we’ve added a new feature for you: You can now manage your own alias addresses. Those are e-mail addresses, which act as a pseudonym for your own e-mail addresses. You can have three chosen and up to 100 random alias addresses. The latter, are supposed to be used in web shops or alike.
Already in 2017, we had announced to work onto enabling mandatory transport encryption of e-mails. People have been saying for a long time this is impossible, because e-mail infrastructure is too old and badly maintained. Our tests in the last 1,5 years showed us a different picture.
